Nova Southeastern University continues to closely monitor Hurricane Maria. Maria is a very dangerous Category 5 storm, and all students, faculty and staff members in Puerto Rico should be fully prepared and sheltered in place at this time. The Puerto Rico Regional Campus will remain closed until further notice. After the storm, when safe, students should check with their professors regarding make-up classes.
Nova Southeastern University’s Puerto Rico Regional Campus will close at noon today, Monday September 18, 2017, until further notice, due to Hurricane Maria. Students should check with their professors regarding make-up classes. The university is closely monitoring Hurricane Maria and will regularly update this website.
NSU is closely monitoring Hurricane Maria and the effects it may have on Puerto Rico and Florida. Maria is already a very strong hurricane and everyone should make preparations now. Updates to campus openings/closures will be posted here. Residents of Puerto Rico should be monitoring the storm and making preparations at home.
The safety of our students and faculty/staff is always our first priority. We understand many of you are anxious about the threat of this storm and we are working hard in anticipation of Hurricane Irma.
Please monitor NSU's hurricane website here and by calling 800-256-5065 or 954-262-7300 for the most up-to-date information on additional campus closings, re-openings and event cancellations. We recommend storing the hotline number in your cell phone so it is readily available when you need it. New information is updated on the hotline and posted on the website as frequently as warranted. Information may also be distributed via email, text messages and social media outlets. In addition, local television and radio will be used to reach those who do not have access to a telephone or to the Internet.
At this time, all students, faculty and staff should review their personal hurricane/storm plans and ensure preparedness. Residential and commuter students can find information and resources at nova.edu/publicsafety/forms/hurricane_brochure.pdf and all previous Hurricane Irma updates at nova.edu/archive. Faculty and staff, please review NSU's technology procedures for Hurricane Irma.
Finally, and extremely important, please update your Personal Emergency Contact Information. To register your information and/or to check and update your existing contact information, please visit nova.edu/emergency/notification/registration-process. When you register, your identification code is your NSU "N" Number, and when prompted to input your phone numbers, please do so without any dashes (e.g., 9542625398). Also, the new system allows you to input multiple phones, texts, and email addresses.
